probing mechanism based on IPv6 messages and traffic load estimation

is an inherently dif-

cult task. The rst goal of this article is to demonstrate how arterial
trac conditions can

be estimated using sparsely sampled GPS probe vehicle data provided
by a small percentage

of vehicles. Trac signals, stop signs, and other 

ow inhibitors make estimating arterial trac

conditions signicantly more dicult than estimating highway trac
conditions. To address

these challenges, we propose a statistical modeling framework that
leverages a large historical

database and relies on the fact that trac conditions tend to follow
distinct patterns over the

course of a week. The second goal of the article is to provide a global
network-level analysis of

trac patterns using matrix factorization and clustering methods.
These techniques allow us

to characterize important spatial congurations in the network and
to analyze trac dynamics

at a network scale. We identify trac patterns that indicate intrinsic
spatio-temporal charac-

teristics over the entire network and give insight into the trac
dynamics of an entire city. By

integrating our estimation technique with our analysis method, we
achieve a general framework

for extracting, processing and interpreting trac information using

tested the combination of IPv6 and GeoNetworking into a single protocol
architecture. 

In short, IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6 and particularly the mobility
support protocols) 

gives to ITS applications all the communication power of the Internet
most notably within the 

ITS station architecture designed by ETSI TC ITS and ISO TC 204 (CALM)
whereas 

GeoNetworking provides the ability for communication systems to transmit
a message to all 

nodes within a geographic area. GeoNetworking was first designed by
the CAR 2 CAR 

Communication Consortium and is dedicated to safety-critical applications.
A non-IP choice 

was made for efficiency reasons (very short latencies are necessary).
Once combined with 

IPv6, GeoNetworking expands Internet communications with the ability
to transmit IPv6 

packets to vehicles in a geographic area beyond single hop radio reach,
and IPv6 expands 

GeoNetworking with the ability to transmit geographic-bound packets
to vehicles not 

immediately reachable on the radio link but reachable through the
Internet. As such, IPv6 

GeoNetworking provides the necessary communication means for road-safety,
traffic 

efficiency, and infotainment types of applications. The GeoNet project
was launched to 

ensure the convergence between the two communication systems (IPv6
and GeoNetworking) 

that seemed to be developed in parallel and to provide an input to
ETSI and ISO

abstract = {When considering the need for an intelligent

transportation mode based upon the fact that car travel is

still the consumer’s first choice, we decided to explore the

idea of collective taxis more fully. More precisely, we are

seeking to provide an autonomous high quality door-to-door

service, affordable by almost everyone, covering the entire

urban area simply by allocating in an optimal way more than

one passenger to each vehicle and using the latest available

information regarding traffic condition etc. We intend to

operate intensive discrete event simulations testing multiple

policies, for both centralised and decentralised management,

with a fine tuning of intelligent real-time decision algorithms

all together with off-line resource optimisation. Thus we shall

be able to learn the system behaviour and consequently to

provide an optimised structure allowing an the best behaviour

for every possible demand level and geometry as well as the

associated costs.},

is developing and evaluating a new vehicle system using a single
type of vehicle for two different usages: individual use or collective
transport. Real experiments will necessarily take place with a limited
number of vehicles and stations. Hence there is a need for evaluation
using simulations. INRIA is developing a discrete events simulator
for that purpose, based on a previous work done for collective taxis.
We present in this paper the model we use for the CATS project. This
model rely on an adapted events/decision graph that extends previous
graphs. The new feature of this model is the way we deal with two
modes that can be extended to many other modes. This work therefore
shows on a concrete example a method to efficiently merge multiple
modes into one model.}},
